This original light box controller was one of many control devices that hooked up to miles and hundreds of fiber optic cables run on the film The Abyss. This air cooled box had this cable attached to the hole in the front which was running to one of the NTI Aliens, creating the ethereal light effects in their bodies and wings.Once switched on the color wheel spins causing the Alien NTI to strobe with vibrant colors. This is one of the few devices left from The Abyss and a key component to make the NTI's design work.
The box comes from the personal collection of visual effects supervisor Steve Johnson himself, who created and operated the final screen used NTI aliens. Next pictures shows some of the lighting devices on set with the fiber cables attached running to the NTI Aliens.
