Planet of the Apes is a 2001 film directed by Tim Burton and based on Pierre Boulle's novel and a remake of the 1968 film of the same title. United States Air Force astronaut Captain Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) accidentally opens a portal to another world inhabited by talking human-like apes who rule the planet with an iron fist. This is the screen used sword, custom made for and used during filming by the main character Thade (Tim Roth). This weapon made of a hard rubber over a metal frame was designed by Colleen Atwood, the academy award winner in 2003 and 2006 for best costume designs. Thade’s sword can be seen on multiple movie posters and other Planet of the Apes memorabilia along with it being on screen. The sword also shows signs of usage from the film set.
