This is Script Supervisor Esther Vivante’s actual working supervisor script from Steven Spielberg’s classic “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”.
Its an original typewriten script, heavy annotated, filled with hundreds of two-sided pages including the shooting script, shot-for-shot notes, continuity, blocking, lenses, and details on every single take, dialogue changes, and more. This is the original shooting script, with all the “white-out”, pencil and ink notations, cutouts, etc. Includes the full timing pre-production sheet as well.
Known as "the book," supervisor's original noted scripts are usually turned into the editor at the end of production, I have been personaly trying to find one for a big production for 2 years. And all script supervisors told me the same, they returned to production for editing purposes. So this is a rare item to come across. So thats why is a "must have" for any script lover.
Most curious things are the changes in the dialogue, because of the actor improvisations, like the famous line of Gertie, saying ET looks like a pig as he eats like a pig.
For the ones that want to know better what does a script supervisor, I attach a funny sketch that will make an idea of their complex job.
