A special effects AK-47 used in the 2005 Steven Spielberg drama Munich. This specially made weapon was used in the scenes at the beginning and end of the film when AK47’s are being fired by the Terrorists. This piece is a genuine deactivated AK47, and has been rigged up to not require blanks as most would, but to simply fire small bursts of flame to simulate the muzzle flashes as if firing real bullets. The rig is simple, consisting of a set of jump leads that would have attached to a battery and a braided hose for the gas supply, with the tiniest power button to avoid being spotted on film.
This great piece comes contained inside the original camouflage flight case used to store and transport it on set which includes a foam cut out and a small spray bottle for ‘cooling’ the prop down when it got a little too hot. The deactivation certificate is supplied from ‘The Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House’ and can be purchased by customers within the UK. The flight case measures 91cm x33cm (36” x 13”) and is marked ‘AK47 MUZZLE FLASH SIMULATOR’ and is numbered ‘#1’ in several places.
