Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner), a shy romantic-adventure writer is hurled into a real-life adventure beyond her wildest dreams in the jungles of South America in order to save her sister by delivering a treasure map to her captors. She is helped out by a rogue mercenary Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) who has ulterior motives. Together they search for the priceless gem located in the map all the while plotting to save Joan’s sister.

Production made book dust jacket for hard cover version of Joan Wilder's romance novel 'The Ravagers'. The first screen-grab shows The Ravagers dust jacket used in Romancing the Stone, the second shows it used in Jewel of the Nile.
