Commodus' (Joaquin Phoenix) Stunt Sword
 

This sword was wielded by Commodus after his ascent to the Roman imperial throne, including during the final battle between himself and his nemesis Maximus, duelling in the arena before the people of Rome. Using every trick at his disposal, Commodus tried his damnedest to overpower the former Roman general, however in spite of his wounds, Maximus won the battle and killed the slayer of his beloved Emperor, Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris).

The ornate sword is made of rubber with an intricately detailed guard, pommel and grip. The sword guard and pommel have a latticework band with floral decoration around the grip, which features embossed disc detailing. The blade is finished in worn steel tones with ivory effect paint applied to the grip, accented in accented in faux-bronze and faux-silver on the sword’s detailing components.


Well used on the production with wear and tarnishing from use in the arena, the sword remains in overall very good condition.
