After the United States commercial starship Nostromo perceives an unknown transmission as distress call, their landing on the source moon finds one of the crew attacked by a mysterious life-form, and soon realize that its life cycle has merely begun.

This is the window of the Nostromo nose, used in the enlarged section model for scenes of the starship on the LV-426 planet. The nose in this model was three times bigger than in the complete 11 foot model at 1/100 scale, so this window is scaled aproximately at 1/33.

Being built to serve close detail as the ship was landing on the alien planet, it was primarily built larger to house a 14 inch tv screen located into the model. First the scenes were shot on the Nostromo cockpit set of actors moving around inside, then transfered from the 35 mm film into a video cassette and played back in the screen located inside the miniature's navigation windows, to show the crew moving around inside. This technique was also used in the Narcissus and was a variant of the rear projection techniques used in such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey in order to expedit the entire effect in-camera with no need of later photochemical opticals.

Built under the supervision of Brian Johnson in the Bray Studios workshop in 1978. Constructed in perspex and dressed with the help of many little model kit parts and decals. Painted with great detail and heavy weathered.

The enlarged nose model was only detailed on one side and a sole window at this scale was constructed. Along with the antenna dish were the only pieces saved from the entire large section, that was put on a bonfire after filming. Easy to screenmatch thanks to the unique weathering patterns.
