A visit to Legacy Effects Studios (formerly Stan Winston Studios)
We recently had the pleasure of having a backstage tour at world renonwed Legacy Effects Studios (formerly Stan Winston Studios) and spend some time on their workshop, starting from the creative desks to the final polish steps but not forgetting everything that goes in between of model, creature and... magic creation from scratch!
From desktop computers generating models to 3D printer generating the real deal, everything starts as little and as big as it gets! A several foot tall Iron Monger welcoming you to the shop and lots of tools, crew and molds/test pieces everywhere, plus not forgetting the display area with lots of finished pieces as "showroom" (mostly cgi/fx reference that sometimes even ended up on the final cut) and their melt with adult collectibles firm Sideshow Collectibles... Everything swamped with the omnipresence of Stan which you could feel all around... Needless to say, we visit the place on a working day so they were on it, with lots of projects going on, hence the amount of images we were allowed to take were... limited. Obviously lots of stuff will remain in our memories forever, but these should help anyone think of the vast power of these guys creating magic from scratch at the same time of delivering the most perfect stuff we've ever seen down to the inch: the utmost care of a guy with 3 kinds of FINE sand paper cleaning up a piece out of a mold by hand left us the impression the real deal was going there right then! Nice Welcome Sign, home made in the Studios
  John Carter's  Main Corridor showcasing only a smal fracion of Legacy's...legacy!   The main...  ...creative...  ...area!  Definetly!!  nth feet tall Iron Monger, actually screen used!  Precious Neytiri!  Neytiri and cockpit  Getting closer...  ...and closer...  definetly closer!  The touch on this one was so real!  ...as Real Steel!  Meeting of Old Friends!  Hello buddy!  Side view   Light reference Destroyer  Actual Screen Used Mark I  Robot for a Logitech commercial  Actual Screen Used War Machine!  Actual Screen Used Whiplash!

 ...to the level of detail!  There's always a black sheep in everyone's family!  Some more...  ...commercials.  Helmet display area.
